Norton's answer to the Triumph Twin, the Dominator 88 was indeed a tour de force. Introduced in 1953, the powerful twin-cylinder engine was housed in Norton's race-winning 'Featherbed' wide-line frame with swinging-arm suspension and their famed 'Roadholder' forks, truly a racer for the road rider. The front brake was increased in size in 1954 and the same chassis housed the 600cc 'Dominator 99' for 1956. MFH 225 is in original condition with the exception of the then fashionable substitution of alloy 'guards many years ago. The engine has also been changed for an exact duplicate from the same series and year, possibly after mechanical problems and also in the machine's early history. The present owner, who no longer rides, bought the Norton in 1992 and had the engine rebuilt by Fair Spares in 1993 at a cost of £618, since when MFH 225 has been stored. An un-restored featherbed Norton like this is increasingly difficult to find and this one should properly be the subject of a high-quality restoration in order to reflect its original quality. MFH 225 is complete with V5, old photographs, Norton OC material, bills and some history.
