Beschreibung:

1953 MG TD ROADSTER Chassis No. TD21690 Red with tan top and tan leather interior Engine: four-cylinder overhead valve, 1,250cc, 45bhp at 5,500rpm; Gearbox: four-speed manual; Suspension: front, independent coil, rear, semi-elliptic leaf springs; Brakes: four-wheel drum. Left hand drive. Production on the famous Midgets began in 1929 and from the T-series of 1936 they had pushrod overhead valve engines. The post-war types which did so much for MG's export achievements began with the TC, and this model did more than ony other model to spread and foster the cult of the European sports car in America. The first real modernization in the design of the Midget came in 1949 with the introduction of the TD. This was a genuine 85mph sports car. It had rack and pinion steering and its coil sprung independent suspension was a first for a Midget. Almost 30,000 Midgets were built between 1950 and 1953 and the vast majority were exported. Unlike the TC which was only available in right hand drive form, the TD was available in left hand drive. The TD was successful because it had classic good looks, good performance, rode well and handled smartly. This MG TD is presented in a fully restored condition, and was purchased from the original family owners in 1970. During a four year extensive process the engine, chassis, transmission and body were completely restored and the interior was finished to a high standard. As such, it was awarded a first Junior and subsequent Senior award in the Antique Automobile Club of America in 1995. Since the extensive restoration the TD has traveled less than 500 miles.
