Beschreibung:

BMW returned, post-war, in 1948 and re-introduced their R51 ‘500’ twin in 1950. Basically the pre-war machine with mechanical improvements including a four-speed ‘box, the R51/2 was itself heavily revised as the R51/3 for 1951. The engine unit prefigured the BMW house-style that would be used in the later R50 and on through the 1960s, during a period when BMW car production was at a minimum. New front forks, new brakes, new styling and superb build-quality made for an attractive motorcycle, which sold steadily to discerning and wealthy clients. It was replaced by the much-revised R50 in 1954, making the R51/3 a relatively uncommon model today. This particular BMW has been in the hands of its late owner, a BMW enthusiast, since 1990, being completely rebuilt during that time. It has seen only light use since then, often as a centerpiece machine for many shows. To original specification and equipped with a contemporary Meier tank, MNB 497 will need the usual safety checks before being returned to the road. This landmark BMW, backed by an enthusiastic Club and a high level of available spares, is complete with some bills and documents, and both an RF.60 and V5C for its Manchester number.
