1947 ROVER 12HP OPEN 4 SEAT TOURER REGISTRATION NO. ESR 674 CHASSIS NO. 7250094 ENGINE NO. 7212785 IVORY WITH GREEN LEATHER INTERIOR. ENGINE: 4 CYLINDER IN LINE, OVERHEAD VALVES, 1496CC; GEARBOX: 4 SPEED SYNCROMESH; BRAKES: FOUR WHEEL DRUM; SUSPENSION: SEMI-ELLIPTIC SPRINGS FRONT AND REAR. NOT ONLY WAS ROVER IN EXISTENCE WELL BEFORE THE TURN OF THE CENTURY, BUT THE FIRM IS STILL VERY ACTIVE TODAY. THE COMPANY MADE CYCLES AND TRICYCLES IN THE EARLY DAYS, AND IT WAS NOT UNTIL 1904 THAT THE FIRST CAR APPEARED. FROM THEN ON A WIDE RANGE OF LARGE MODELS WITH TWO AND FOUR CYLINDERS WERE DEVELOPED AND SOLD IN THE YEARS PRIOR TO THE FIRST WORLD WAR. AFTER AN UNSUCCESSFUL SIX CYLINDER 3½ LITRE MODEL IN 1923, ATTENTION TURNED TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF CARS IN THE MEDIUM RANGE, AND A SUCCESSION OF PUSHROD ENGINED SIXES ENSUED, THESE BEING THE FAMOUS PILOTS AND METEORS. THE ROVER 12 WAS FIRST INTRODUCED IN 1931 AND CONTINUED IN PRODUCTION RIGHT UP TO THE WAR IN 1939, FOLLOWING WHICH THE MODEL WAS REVIVED AND PRODUCED UNTIL 1948. THE BODY STYLES WERE THAT OF EITHER A STANDARD SALOON, COUPE OR THE ATTRACTIVE OPEN 4 SEAT TOURER AS ON OFFER TODAY. THE 12HP ENGINE PERFORMED EASILY AND AFFORDED SMOOTH AND SILENT RUNNING, AND THE LONG WHEELBASE CHASSIS WITH DISTINCTIVE ROVER STYLING PROVIDED AN IDEAL BASE ON WHICH TO CARRY THE WELL PROPORTIONED BODY. THIS PARTICULAR CAR IS SAID TO BE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION THROUGHOUT, THE INTERIOR UPHOLSTERY IS NEW GREEN LEATHER AND IT HAS A COMPLETE SET OF WEATHER EQUIPMENT. IT RUNS VERY WELL AND HAS SEEN REGULAR USE OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS, COMPETING IN VARIOUS SHOWS AND CONCOURS EVENTS IN THE HANDS OF THE CURRENT OWNER. A LOVELY EXAMPLE OF THIS RARE MODEL.
