1941 CADILLAC SERIES 62 CONVERTIBLE COUPE Chassis No. TBA Black with tan corduroy interior and black canvas top Engine: 90 degree V8, L head, 346cid, 150bhp; Gearbox: three speed manual; Suspension: independent front with coil springs, rear semi-elliptic leaf springs; Brakes: four wheel hydraulic drums. Left hand drive. By 1941, Cadillac Division of General Motors had achieved supremacy among domestic automobiles in prestige, status and popularity. Legendary GM designers Harley Earl and William Mitchell pulled out all the stops and garnished the 1941 Cadillac with a massive, horizontal format breakthrough grille design that changed the pattern of grille designs throughout the industry. The prominent hood contour combined with a massive new interpretation of Cadillac's traditional egg crate grill theme made the 1941 one of Cadillac's most memorable and popular designs. The Cadillac on offer here is the last convertible built by Cadillac without rear quarter windows. This gives the car a close coupled and sporty flair. It was also the first year Cadillac provided a power mechanism to raise and lower the convertible top. The robust and powerful Cadillac V8 engine was introduced in the mid-30's as successor to a long line of Cadillac V8 power plants. By 1941, it was a tried and proven power plant that was so strong, it was widely used during World War II to power military tanks. The 1941 Cadillac on offer here is a highly original example showing 68,000 miles on the odometer. Amazingly, much of the black paint appears to be the original, though it has been touched up in a few sections. A good bit of the tan cloth interior is also in presentable, well preserved original condition. All 1941 Cadillacs are attractive and highly regarded. The convertible coupes are clearly the most popular and most desirable of the 1941 Cadillacs. It is certified as a full classic by the Classic Car Club of America and is therfore elligible for many club sponsered events including the popular Caravans. This is the best preserved, most original 1941 Cadillac Christie's has had the pleasure of offering.
