1938 AUSTIN BIG SEVEN FOUR DOOR SALOON Registration No. EYH 465 Chassis No. RV 12439 Engine No. IA 12670 Body No. RV9600 Black with dark green leather interior Engine: four cylinder, side valve, 900cc, 24bhp at 4,000rpm; Gearbox: four speed manual; Suspension: front, transverse leaf spring, rear, quarter elliptic leaf springs; Brakes: four wheel drum. Right hand drive. The 'Big' Seven fitted neatly into the Austin production range for 1938 and 1939, and was aimed at bridging the gap between their Seven and Ten horsepower models. With its own distinctive styling, notable for its lack of running boards and swept back tail which concealed the spare wheel, it also featured Girling brakes all round and steel spoke wheels. Some 23,514 units were made in a two year immediately pre-war production run, and was offered with 2 or 4 door coachwork as on this car. 'EYH 465' was registered with London County Council on 10th July 1938. Its early history is not recorded until the 1950s when its continuation log book is able to confirm that Mrs Dorothy Mabel Venis of Ye Old Cherry Tree, Lt. Oakley bought the car on 28th July 1954. She kept the car for over a decade before it passed to C. Adams of Billericay and shortly afterwards was acquired by the Sharpe family. Still wearing its last road tax disc from August 1966, this suggests that it was probably stored following its acquisition and then never subsequently used, the speedometer reading of 37,029 miles may well be correct therefore and generally reflects its overall condition which although old is solid, straight and complete.
