Beschreibung:

This ‘Special’ was intended to combine the superb handling of the ‘wide-line’ Norton ‘Featherbed’ frame with the light weight and power of the famous, pre-war, Excelsior ‘Manxman’ 500 cc. Sport, bronze-head engine. To this end, a complete Norton ‘Model 50’ was purchased and dismantled, the Norton engine put to one side (See Lot 94364713 / 6) and new engine plates and primary chain-case designed and made to enable the successful installation of the ‘Manxman’ motor, as seen. Unusually, all of the Norton’s original ‘tinware’ was retained, perhaps because pressure of work prevented completion of the project. In good condition, the machine may now be completed by a new owner, or restored as a Norton ‘Model 50 Featherbed’, with the huge additional bonus of a Manxman engine for a further project. At the time of cataloguing no papers had yet been found.
