(3200cc), 40bhp at 2,200rpm; Gearbox: manual three speed; Suspension: front beam axle with single transverse leaf spring, rear, live axle with transverse leaf spring; Brakes: cable operated drum. Right hand drive. Although the Ford Model A was in production for only five years, in that short period four and a half million were sold, an impressive figure that even today is approached by few manufacturers. Like Henry Fords' Model T before it, the Model A was light, not too highly stressed and built of the finest metals that metallurgists could contrive. It was a recipe for long life and reliability, and that the car certainly achieved. Driven straight off the production line, an early example covered 3046 miles across the North American continent to Seattle, often picking its way over atrocious tracks, and beat the fastest train time by four hours. It really was a shrewd recipe; the side-valve engine gave a useful but by no means exeptional 40bhp, but in addition there was an abundance of torque delivered at very low revolutions. The Model Ford A pulled well on good highways, ambling along at 40 to 45 mph, but with its wide track and stump-pulling first gear could work its way across almost any terrain. Ford continued its one-model policy with the Model A, but offered an almost bewildering range of body options, from four-door saloons to open two seater and four-seater roadsters, by way of light trucks, panel vans and even small buses. This car was purchased by the current owner in Uraguay in 1987. Since then it has had some mechanical work carried out in order to obtain a Swiss registration. It is offered with full weather equipment and is described as being not in perfect condition, but a nice runabout.
