Like its major rivals, Scott was well aware of the publicity value of racing and the allure of models with a TT connection, so the adoption of an optional full-frame tank, like that of the works racers, for the new Flying Squirrel was not surprising. Launched at the Olympia Show in 1925, the 'Flyer' came in 498cc and 596cc capacities, the latter being the most expensive machine in the range. Subsequent models further benefited from the racing programme, gaining the duplex frame and bigger brakes (first seen on the works bikes in 1926) and the mag-platform Pilgrim oil pump adopted for the 1927 TT machines. Previously owned by Tom West, a past president of the Scott Owners Club, 'KA 9644' was first registered in 5th December 1927 and retains matching registration, frame and engine numbers. Its late owner acquired this well preserved and highly original vintage 'Flyer' in January 2000, subsequently fitting the restored sidecar chassis and the stylish, single-seater, launch-type, sports 'chair'. The machine features a Jaeger speedometer, 8-day clock, André steering damper and Bentley & Draper 'stabilizer' friction damper to the front fork. The original hood, sidescreens and sidecar sidelight are included in the sale, and we are advised that the cooling system has been drained. It is not known when the machine was last used; however, a tax disc dated '04/98' is affixed. The machine is offered with (copy) old Swansea V5 and current Swansea V5 documents. Careful re-commissioning is advised before returning it to the road.
