The near pristine surfaces of this ice-white Gem offer impressive brilliance overall, with only the slightest hint of opaque patina. The devices are lightly frosted and, when contrasted with the watery fields, are very close to a "Cameo" designation. Proof 64 is the average grade for most certified examples, and pieces at the Proof 66 level are highly elusive. For future identification, a couple of tiny parallel lines are noted near the base of the shield on the reverse. Only 670 Proofs were coined during the year, this is one of the finest remaining.
