Beschreibung:

Lot of 2 manuscript documents, the first signed by Henry Gardner on November 28, 1766, 4 x 7 in. The second signed by William Williams on May of 1796, 6 x 7.75 in. Henry Gardner (1731-1782) was the first Treasurer Receiver of Massachusetts, and, as such, his signature appears on some colonial currency. A resident of Stow, he moderated the meeting at which Stow voted to support independence from Great Britain. William Williams (1731-1811) was a merchant and delegate to the Continental Congress from Connecticut. He was elected to replace Oliver Wolcott, but arrived too late for the vote on the Declaration of Independence. He did, however, sign the engrossed copy as Connecticut's representative. A native of Lebanon, CT, Williams was the son of a minister and became a Congregationalist minister himself. The Williams' home in Lebanon is on the National Register of Historic Places. Condition: Toning of the paper and bleeding of ink. Slight burn mark on the top left corner of the Gardner document.
