.69 caliber, 42" barrel with V/P and palm tree stamping. Lockplate stamped Palmetto Armory, S.C/Columbia, S.C. 1852.SC marking on the top of the tang of buttplate. Complete with two swivels and black leather sling. 3,700 muskets of this type were manufactured at the Palmetto Armory in 1852. (See Murphy, 1996:285-286.) Condition: All metal surfaces have been cleaned. Metal surfaces now have a dirty grey to black salt and pepper pitting. All brass furniture has a nice mellow patination. Wood is very dry and has probably been cleaned and plastic wood has been filled in a spot on the comb of the stock. Otherwise very complete and good example of a very rare Palmetto Confederate musket. Sling may well be original to the musket.
