Bll. (a) 1 u. (b) 1 sowie das Schlussbl. H 12 mit dem Register. Von zeitgenössischer Hand in schwarzbrauner Tinte foliiert u. mit Marginalien, stellenweise auch mit Unterstreichungen versehen. Durchgehend mehr oder minder stark wasserfleckig, die hübschen Malereien auf Bl. (b) 2 r etwas verblaßt. Die ersten u. le. Bll. mit fachmännischen Ausbesserungen im sehr breiten w. Rand, Bl. (a) 2 r mit getilgtem Stempel, Bl. (a) 10 mit kl. Schadstelle am unteren Rand des Satzspiegels (Buchstabenverlust). Rücken, Ecken u. Vors. um 1870 erneuert, Deckel etwas beschabt, vord. Vorsatz mit aufgeklebter hs. Notiz betr. eines Brandes u. dem damit einhergehenden Löschwasser, dem vorliegender Band um 1868 bei Sotheby's zum Opfer fiel. - Exlibris Bibliotheca Lindesiana. A rare early edition of part one (all published) of Saint Jerome's letters, edited by the bishop of Aleria, Giovanni Andrea de' Bossi, text corresponding to that of the c. 1467 first edition, but without the obituary of Theodorus Lelius. - Lacking the 2 blanks and the index leaf, foliated and supplied with marginalia by a contemporary hand, waterstaining throughout affecting decorated initial and coat of arms in gold and colours on first page of text, very wide margins, expert repairs to margins of several ll. at beginning and end, one l. with cancelled library stamp, another with small defect entailing very slight loss of text. Late 18th-century russia binding (some wear to covers) supplied with new spine, corners and endpapers c. 1870. Old ms. note to front pastedown: "This copy belonged to the earl of Charlemont, whose library was at Sotheby's for sale, together with Mr Offor's, when a fire took place about the year 1868.
