Panayiotis "Takis" Vassilakis (Greek, 1925-2019) Signals Series 2Kinetic Light Sculpture, United Kingdom, 1968, mixed media with lights, number 225 of an edition of unknown circulation, constructed from two extendable telescopic chromium rods supporting colored lights which flash intermittently, on a white painted metal base, marked under the base "unlimited bath, widcombe manor, artist takis, series 2, signals, no. 225, 1968, voltage 110/220," ht. 83 3/4 in. Literature: Kinetische Kunst, Katalog Die Sammlung des Städtischen Museums Gelsenkirchen, 1998, Abb. Cover and S.42/43. Note: Takis was a self-taught Greek artist known for his kinetic sculptures. In 1968, Takis studied at the Center for Advanced Visual Studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Takis' works are in private and public collections around the world including the Centre Pompidou, Paris; Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Peggy Guggenheim Museum, New York; the De Menil Collection, Houston, Texas; Tate Modern, London; and The Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice.
