Four Borge Mogensen (Danish, 1914-1972) Chairs, Boston, Massachusetts, c. 1975, oak frames and upholstered seats, with maker's labels, two armchairs, ht. 28, seat ht. 19, wd. 23 1/2, dp. 20, side chairs, ht. 28, seat ht. 19, wd. 19, dp. 20 in. Provenance: Acquired from CI Designs, a design and architectural firm based in Boston, Massachusetts, from the late 1950s through the 1980s. CI Designs was a licensed manufacturer of Borge Mogensen designs, as well as a number of other prominent designers of the time. Note: Mogensen was one of the most important among a generation of furniture designers who made the concept of "Danish Modern" known throughout the world. Together with colleagues such as Arne Jacobsen and Hans J. Wegner, Mogensen created international respect for Danish furniture design, and his simple and functional designs have for more than half a century enjoyed worldwide demand.
