Eight Pieces of Joseph Mrazek Czecho Peasant Art Co. Ceramics and Two Similar Pieces, Czechoslovakia, c. 1925, polychrome painted porcelain, tea pot, ht. 6 3/4, pitcher, ht. 4, vase, ht. 6, sauce dish on attached stand with ceramic ladle, ht. 3 3/4, pair of candleholders, ht. 3 1/2, set of salt and pepper shakers, ht. 2 1/2, all with the ink stamped mark for "Peasant Art Industries," together with a fan-shaped vase, ink stamped "Made in Czechoslovakia Hand-painted," ht. 7 1/4, a covered jar, ink stamped "Czechoslovakia Hand-painted," ht. 7 1/4 in. Note Joseph Mrazek (b. 1889) emigrated from his native Bohemia and settled in New York City where he developed talents as a ceramics decorator. Following the establishment of Czechoslovakia, he returned to Europe seeking to help his former homeland. In the town of Letovice, he established a ceramics factory that produced wares with decorations influenced by traditional folk arts of the region. Czecho Peasant Art Company flourished in the 1920s, but closed in 1933.
