William Wyman (1922-1980) Studio Pottery Vase, Boston, Massachusetts, mid-20th century, cylindrical form with narrow mouth, glazes predominately orange, green, and red, artist's impressed mark, ht. 4 3/4 in. Note: In 1957, Wyman received his BS in Education from Massachusetts College of Art, Boston, Massachusetts followed by his MA from Columbia University, New York, in 1951. In 1953 he attended New York State College of Art, Alfred University, Alfred, New York. In 1962 he co-founded Herring Run Pottery with Michael Cohen, East Weymouth, Massachusetts. Wyman is well-known for a series of stoneware slab built vessels often covered with sgraffito cartoons, poems or other contemporary phrases.
