Five William Wyman (1922-1980) Studio Pottery Vases, Boston, Massachusetts, mid-20th century, oval with blue glaze and pebbled surface, narrow mouth, ht. 4, oval with blue glaze and pebbled surface, narrow mouth, ht. 3 3/4, round in dark blue glaze, narrow mouth, ht. 4, oval in brown and beige glazes, narrow mouth, ht. 5 3/4 in., all with artist's impressed mark or signature. Note: In 1957, Wyman received his BS in Education from Massachusetts College of Art, Boston, Massachusetts followed by his MA from Columbia University, New York, in 1951. In 1953 he attended New York State College of Art, Alfred University, Alfred, New York. In 1962 he co-founded Herring Run Pottery with Michael Cohen, East Weymouth, Massachusetts. Wyman is well-known for a series of stoneware slab built vessels often covered with sgraffito cartoons, poems or other contemporary phrases.
