Two Gerry Williams (1926-2014) Studio Pottery Sgraffito Vases, New Hampshire, c. 1955, oval form with flared rim, green matte glaze, decorative band depicting female faces, fish and birds, incised artist's signature and stamped "hand" mark, ht. 8, oval form with conical neck, gray and dark gray glazes, bands of geometric decoration, incised artist's signature and stamped "hand" mark, ht. 7 in. Note: Williams was a nationally and internationally recognized master craftsman, teacher, lecturer, and author. He was the founder of The Studio Potter, a nonprofit membership organization, and editor of The Studio Potter Magazine, a journal about the aesthetics, technology, and history of pottery and about the personal lives of ceramic artists. On February 19, 1998, he was appointed as New Hampshire's first Artist Laureate by Governor Jeanne Shaheen. (New Hampshire State Council on the Arts)
