Gerry Williams (1926-2014) Studio Pottery Tureen and Covered Jar, New Hampshire, c. 1990, wax resist, tureen cover decorated with dark brown band with abstract elements in rust-red glaze, opening in rim for ladle, body with two loop handles, mottled gray matte glaze, incised artist's signature, ht. 7 1/4, handle to handle, 14 1/2, jar with conforming glazes and similar abstract decoration, incised artist's signature, ht. 8 1/2, dia. 5 1/2 in. Note: Williams was a nationally and internationally recognized master craftsman, teacher, lecturer, and author. He was the founder of The Studio Potter, a nonprofit membership organization, and editor of The Studio Potter Magazine, a journal about the aesthetics, technology, and history of pottery and about the personal lives of ceramic artists. On February 19, 1998, he was appointed as New Hampshire's first Artist Laureate by Governor Jeanne Shaheen. (New Hampshire State Council on the Arts)
