Three Civil War Hand-drawn Maps of the Battles of Fair Oaks and Seven Pines, Battle of Fair Oaks map, detailed map of the intersection of 9 Mile Road and "Direct Road to Richmond," includes depictions of the surrounding woods, locations of rifle pits, particular regiments, battery camps, and General Casey's, General Couch's, and General Devens's divisions, mounted on board, 10 x 7 3/4 in.; Lyman D. Blackington, Fair Oaks, 19 June 1862, the six-page letter describes Confederate forces pouring out of the woods and being shelled on three separate occasions, retreating all three times, the roughly sketched map depicts the surrounding river and woods as well as the locations of breastworks and batteries, the map is identified with numbers, the significance of each described by the writer, 9 x 7 in.; Charles W. Hamlin, Chickahominy River, 2 June 1862, the three-page letter, describes hearing fire and being ordered across the swelled Chickahominy River, an enemy cavalryman being taken prisoner, specific regiment movements, and an enemy surprise attack, the numbered map provides a sketch of the battlefield as well as giving locations of troops, batteries, and a field hospital, 15 x 10 in.
