John Lloyd Wright (1892-1972) Executive Desk, Michigan City, Indiana, c. 1945, "blonde" mahogany, semi-circular with three apron drawers, two drawers in each pedestal, ht. 30, wd. 70, dp. 30 in. Provenance: This piece was made for Jack M. Ruby, founder of Hoosier Factories (later Jaymar-Ruby Inc.),of Michigan City, Indiana. A successful clothing manufacturer, he commissioned Wright to build his home and decorate his office. The desk and accompanying screen descended in the Ruby family until given to the present owner. Note: John Lloyd Wright was the second son of the famous architect, Frank Lloyd Wright with whom he had a troubled relationship. His practice was almost entirely residential, in the Prairie and Bauhaus styles, chiefly in Indiana and California. Today he is best known as the inventor of Lincoln Logs.
