(167.6 x 119.4 cm),framed Condition: Mounted onto board, craquelure, scattered losses and retouch throughout, accretions, nailed to board along perimeter of composition. Provenance: The painting was purchased at an estate auction on Riverside Road in Byram, New York, in 1979 by the current owner. The Estate belonged to Mr. Stendhal (or Stenvall) who acquired the painting at Bukowski's Auction in Helsinki, Finland, in 1954. An accompanying black and white photograph has been misplaced that bore a written attribution to Van Dyck by Claire Stenvall (or Stenvall, or Stendhal). The painting has been in the possession of the current owner for about 40 years. N.B. The composition is similar in spirit to the painting Amor vincit omnia by Paul de Vos (Flemish, 1595-1678) in collaboration with Jan van den Hoecke (Dutch, 1611-1651). The similarity was pointed out in a letter from Hans M. Cramer, dated May 5, 1998, referencing the collaborative work in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna by Paul de Vos and J. v.d. Hoecke.
